- Enochian Talismans
The Enochian beings gave John Dee and Edward Kelly a method of creating an Enochian Talisman for healing purposes. From this we can figure out how to construct our own Enochian talisman for healing and even perhaps how to make our own for other purposes. Below is my chapter on Enochian talismans using the names of the Bonorum.
Sigil magick is the next area to embark upon. Since the 19 day working the magickian should have a good idea about how to create the Enochian sigils. Each of the Heptarchical entities is listed with a particular power associated with them. This is how the magickian should decide upon what angel can be used for what operation.
Sigil magick is an important aspect of Enochian magick, as well as magick in general. Many of the EEs have sigils that Kelly received during skrying. THe general rules from modern systems of western magick for making sigils can be easily applied to Enochian. The keys of Solomon can be referenced for this purpose as an example. Examples of the Enochian seals.
The seals can be constructed out of wood, metal, clay, paper or parchment.
When utilizing the Enochian sigils a hierarchy can be used. For example if you have constructed a sigil for Bagonel, then I and El from the sigil dei aemeth can also be called upon.
Sigils for the governors of the 91 aethyres can also be constructed. Jeoffrey James has come up with an effective and well thought out system for this. The only change that I would make is to use a smaller portion of the Enochian tablet on the back. Examples below of James and Mine.
For the EEs that do not already have sigils in the MSS, one can skry them up to obtain their particular seal. As with the keys of Solomon, the letters of the entities name can be placed in a circle around the sigil in the seal. Another method of constructing Enochian seals could be to make them out of the corresponding geomantic figure. For example of working with a planetary entity one could use a heptagon shaped seal. Or, if you work with the tree of life, and you feel that the entity corresponds with yesode or the mon, you could construct the seal in an octogon shaped seal.
Sigils aren't necessarily needed, the prayers themselves work very effectively, however the seals can be used as a focus and storing device for that particular angel or entity. Also, with repeated use, they tend to build up energy and bring forth the angel more easily. Also, the zymology of the seal has a certain link to our subconscious and therefore allows us to bring about that state more easily.
Enochian seals can also be constructed for a particular purpose. So far I have only covered constructing seals for particular entities, however, specific magickal desires can also be used. In the GD system sigils are created using the rose cross. I have found in the Enochian system that sigils can easily be constructed using the great table or the tables from the heptarchy. For example if you wish to enhance your psychic abilities, you could use the water quadrant of the great table. Once you have copied the
tablet onto a piece of paper you can start with the first letter from the quarter of air of water, then trace the seal from one letter of your written desire to another until the word or phrase is completed. All four of the sub elements can be used to maintain balance, or just one of them if this seems appropriate to the magickal purpose.
Magickal squares can also be constructed using any of the Enochian names, or the desire that you want to attain. Sigils can also be drawn using these magickal squares.
There is an Enochian square for the 42 ministers of the days of the week. There are also magickal squares that are constructed using the names on the sigil dei aemeth
Astrological magickal squares can also be constructed using the corresponding names of the governors of the 91 aethyres.
Dee and Kelly were given a method of creating sigils by the angels. Dee wanted to do a healing ritual for a woman named Elizibeth Lester. He asked the angels for assistance; after they gave their OK, and said that it would work out, the angels instructed Dee on how to create sigils using the Bonorum names. The 49 angels names were to be used together, as if in a grid. The next step was to choose a column, for example the 3rd letter of every name, or the 4th letter of every name and so on. This can more easily be seen if the names are actually placed in a square grid instead on on the round diagram of the Bonorum. The appropriate column is chosen by which column actually contains all the letters of the person’s name. If the sigil is constructed and a purpose instead of a name is used, the same process could be used using the name of the goal instead. Once the column is chosen, the magickian is to find the first letter of the name. In Dee’s example it would be E for Elizibeth. The E is not found until the th name, as the first do not contain that letter.
The idea for this table and diagram is from Robert Turner’s Elizabethan magick pg. 27

Once the letter is found, the number of the name is written down on a piece of paper. The successive letters in the name are each done in the same manner.
The list of numbers is then placed around the circumfrance of the sigil. In this case the sigil was made out of lead. As this was a healing ritual, the lead must have been used to represent the planet Saturn, to destroy or kill the disease or ailment in question. The planet that most suits your working should be decided upon, then the corresponding metal used. Circles can easily be cut from sheet metal using a pair of extra sharp, and slightly smaller than usual, tin snips. In the case of Mercury, Zinc (which has the closest atomic weight) or an alloy may be used. In the case of gold, brass could be used if one cannot afford gold. I use brass (for it’s gold colour) then apply 23K gold leaf on top of the sigil.
Here is a list of the planets and their magickal uses:
The Moon: Voyages, Navigation, Reconciliation, Astral travel
Mercury: Intelligence, Promptness, Science, Tests, Learning, Education, Trickery, Deceit, Electronics
Venus: Love, friendships, relationships, works of joy
The Sun: Temporal wealth, hope, gain, fortune, friendships, eliminate negative feelings
Mars: War, Military honor, Courage, Strength, Overcoming obstacles, Fighting
Jupiter: Luck, money, honors, riches, health, desires, the favor of royalty or government
Saturn : Eliminating barriers or anything that is no longer needed, Death, Confinement, Jails, Manifestation (if careful),
There wasn't’t any information in the diaries on how to use many of the tables in the Enochian system. It is possible that the angels did not want Dee and Kelly to work this magick (as in many other cases), or any notes on a use could have been lost wrapping pies! I have included my ideas on how to use some of these tables for sigil magick. To create a sigil, one takes a magickal square, or the Hebrew alphabet (laid out in the rose cross pattern) and draws the sigil from one letter to another. The table used should correlate with the magickal purpose of the talisman.
To create a sigil using the tables created from the Sigil Dei Aemeth, you would start by having a magickal purpose that corresponded with one or more of the planets. Since the Sun is said to contain all of the planets, workings that pertain to the Sun would be especially potent. For example, the Sun is a good planet to work with for healing work. If you would want to create a healing talisman using one of these tables, you would come up with a word or notoricon for your purpose. An example would be the person’s name, or perhaps even the word health. Keep in mind not to use negatives. For example, do not put “no cancer” for example. The reasoning should be obvious..
To create your sigil, you would find the first letter. We will use the word “health” as an example. There is an H near the bottom left corner. A small circle is drawn in this position. Next, a nearby “E” should be found. A line is drawn from H to E. The rest of the letters are then found, with lines connecting each of them. Once the word is complete, a small line is drawn at the end of the sigil. Now this sigil can be drawn on paper, metal, parchment or wood and used in ritual. The names from this tablet would be inscribed or painted on the back of the sigil. When performing your healing ritual, you can either call upon the seven main names on this table, or you could call upon all of the names on the table that correspond with the Sun.
