I have created an Alice in Magick Wonderland tarot deck. The symbolism is based on the Rider Waite tarot, in a much more artistic and creative way. Alice does have to travel into another world, that of Wonderland, after all ;)
Alice explores the tarot in this truly beautiful re-creation of the original Alice in Wonderland story art. The art is inspired by the first Alice in Wonderland illustrator John Tenniel. As with Tenniel's art style, this deck also delves into the surrealism style as a perfect balance with the realism of the characters.
Alice had always been intrigued by the Mad Hatter's fascination with peculiar things. One day, she found herself in his hat-adorned abode, surrounded by an array of oddities. The Mad Hatter, with his eclectic sense of style and unpredictable demeanor, was an enigma to her.
"Alice," he began, his voice echoing through the room filled with clocks, "have you ever heard of the Tarot?"
She shook her head, her curiosity piqued. "No, I haven't."
The Mad Hatter's eyes sparkled with excitement. He cleared a space on his cluttered table and laid out an ornate deck of cards. "Then let me introduce you to the wonders of divination!"
As Alice watched, the Mad Hatter began to shuffle the cards, mumbling nonsensical rhymes under his breath. He then drew three cards and spread them before Alice.
"This is the first card," he said, pointing to the top one. "It represents your past. It's the Hermit, symbolizing introspection and seeking hidden truths."
He turned to the middle card. "The second card, the present, is the Lovers. This signifies choices and relationships, both romantic and platonic."
Finally, he revealed the third card. "And the future, my dear Alice, is the Wheel of Fortune. This indicates unexpected changes and opportunities for growth."
Alice was captivated by the Mad Hatter's passionate explanation of each card's meaning. She began to see parallels between the whimsical world of Wonderland and the Tarot's symbolic language.
Inspired, she asked, "Could we try creating our own Tarot-inspired story?"
The Mad Hatter agreed, and together they crafted a tale of their adventures in Wonderland, using the Tarot as a guide. They envisioned a journey where Alice, as the Hermit, sought hidden truths. Along the way, she encountered various creatures—the Lovers representing relationships with the Cheshire Cat and the Caterpillar—and ultimately found herself at the Wheel of Fortune, where a series of unexpected events led her to newfound self-discovery.
